Reclaim MLK’s Radical Legacy March at Oscar Grant Plaza
Today, Oakland honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with the 12th Annual Reclaim MLK’s Radical Legacy March. Organized by the Anti Police-Terror Project, the rally and mobilization begin at 11:00 AM at Oscar Grant Plaza, located at 14th Street and Broadway. This year’s theme focuses on Dr. King’s uncompromising positions on racial and economic justice, moving beyond simple nostalgia to address current community needs.
The event is designed to be a holistic community gathering, running until 3:00 PM. Participants can explore various designated areas within the plaza, including:
- The Children’s Village: A space dedicated to youth-focused activities and educational play.
- The Healing Justice Village: Offering community wellness resources such as acupuncture, bodywork, and herbal care.
- Main Stage: Featuring local speakers, performances, and activists discussing housing, environmental justice, and civil rights.
The march will proceed through the streets of downtown Oakland, providing a platform for collective action and unity before returning to the plaza for a resource fair and food from local vendors.
