Public Notice: Sunday Parking Enforcement Delayed and Infrastructure Staging Commences

Official City Notice: Extension of Sunday Parking Meter Grace Period
The City of Oakland has officially announced an extension for the grace period regarding Sunday parking meter operations. Originally slated for earlier enforcement, the first day of active Sunday parking meter enforcement is now rescheduled for Sunday, April 12, 2026. This extension is intended to provide residents and visitors additional time to adjust to the new weekend parking regulations. During this period, city officials encourage the public to continue observing all other posted parking signs, including time limits and residential permit zones, to ensure traffic flow and accessibility in commercial corridors.
Construction Alert: Oakland Alameda Access Project Staging
Caltrans and the City of Oakland advise motorists that early construction staging for the Oakland Alameda Access Project is now visible as of mid-February 2026. While major construction is slated to begin on March 2, preliminary work including the placement of signage and equipment mobilization is active today, Friday, February 13. Residents should expect minor daytime lane shifts near the Webster and Posey Tubes. Project partners are currently evaluating options to shift future daytime lane closures to overnight hours to mitigate community traffic concerns. Public informational meetings were recently completed, and final schedules for the spring construction phase are being finalized.
Public Health Advisory: Winter Respiratory Season Protections
The Alameda County Public Health Department (ACPHD) reminds Oakland residents that the winter respiratory virus season remains active through March 31, 2026. Per current health guidelines, staff and visitor masking is strongly recommended in all patient care areas of licensed general acute care hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and dialysis centers. This advisory is issued in response to seasonal trends in COVID-19, influenza, and RSV activity. Residents who are struggling to access vaccinations may contact ACPHD for information on free flu and COVID-19 clinics available throughout the city, regardless of insurance status.
City Council and Administrative Updates
Following the Rules and Legislation Committee meeting on February 12, the Oakland City Council is preparing for its next concurrent session on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Key items on the upcoming agenda include reports on the multi-year Roadmap to Fiscal Health and reappointments to the Housing, Residential Rent, and Relocation Board. Additionally, the public is notified of an active executive order signed by the Mayor’s office directing city departments to maintain local protections for residents amidst shifts in federal immigration enforcement. Community members seeking to report non-emergency infrastructure issues, such as pothole deterioration or street light outages, are encouraged to use the OAK 311 service platform for tracking and prioritization.
