Bay Bridge Maintenance and Traffic Alerts
Motorists should prepare for significant delays on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge today. Caltrans has scheduled a daytime lane closure on Eastbound I-80 for maintenance. The first lane leading to the Yerba Buena Island Tunnel will be closed from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Travelers are advised to use alternate routes or allow for extra travel time during the morning and early afternoon commute.
Additionally, the Oakland-Alameda Access Project is now underway. This three-year project involves infrastructure improvements between I-880, I-980, and the Posey and Webster tubes. While the tubes will remain open during the day, residents should expect intermittent nighttime closures and ongoing detours in the Chinatown and Jack London districts.
Sunday Parking Enforcement Grace Period
The City of Oakland has officially extended the grace period for Sunday parking meter operations. While parking enforcement was originally slated to begin sooner, the first day of active enforcement for Sunday meters is now scheduled for April 12, 2026. This extension is intended to allow residents and visitors more time to adjust to the new parking regulations.
Missing Person Alert: Najibah Pasha
The Oakland Police Department is requesting public assistance in locating 16-year-old Najibah Pasha, who has been missing since mid-January. Pasha was last seen near 14th Avenue and East 31st Street. She is described as a Black female, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing approximately 165 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is urged to contact the Missing Persons Unit.
Executive Orders on Resident Protection
Mayor Barbara Lee has recently signed executive orders directing all city departments to enhance protections for Oakland residents. These orders are a response to a federal surge in immigration enforcement and aim to ensure that city resources are not utilized for federal immigration actions. The directives reinforce Oakland’s status as a sanctuary city, prioritizing the safety and security of all community members regardless of documentation status.
