Monday Morning Commute Overview

Oakland commuters should prepare for a complex morning and evening travel window today, Monday, February 9, 2026. Following the conclusion of Super Bowl LX yesterday at Levi's Stadium, regional traffic is expected to remain significantly higher than average as visitors depart the Bay Area. Combined with scheduled maintenance on major arteries and significant adjustments to public transit networks, Oakland residents are advised to allow at least 20 to 30 minutes of additional travel time.

Major Roadworks and Lane Closures

  • Caldecott Tunnel (CA-24): Caltrans has scheduled a series of overnight bore closures for maintenance starting tonight, Monday, February 9. Beginning at 10:00 PM, the Eastbound Right Bore will be closed until 4:30 AM. While at least one bore will remain open in each direction, motorists traveling between Oakland and Orinda should expect merging delays late this evening.
  • Vasco Road Delays: For those commuting toward the Tri-Valley or Livermore areas, the Contra Costa Public Works Department has scheduled roadwork on Vasco Road between Camino Diablo and the Alameda County Line. Work is slated for today between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, with anticipated delays of up to 30 minutes.
  • Oakland-Alameda Access Project: Construction activities continue near the Webster and Posey Tubes. While the tubes remain open during peak morning hours, intermittent lane shifts are in place as part of the multi-year infrastructure project.

Public Transport Alerts

Significant updates have gone into effect for regional transit users following the February 1st service realignment. Commuters should verify their routes before heading to the stop.

  • AC Transit: Local lines 40 (to Bay Fair BART/Eastmont) and 840 are experiencing temporary stop closures starting today through February 12. Additionally, the recent 'Realign' network updates mean Line 800 (All-Nighter) now terminates in Downtown Oakland rather than continuing to Richmond. Conversely, Transbay Line F has added five new weekday morning trips to assist with high ridership.
  • Capitol Corridor: Ongoing equipment unavailability has resulted in reduced train service. Several trains, including 520, 526, and 531, are cancelled through March 1. Furthermore, Train 734 is currently reporting 35-minute delays between Richmond and Martinez due to heavy rail traffic.
  • BART: While regular service is running through the core of Oakland, the system is managing high demand from post-Super Bowl departures. Commuters heading toward SFO should be aware of 30-minute delays after 9:00 PM due to ongoing train control modernization.

Upcoming Parking Impact

Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, February 10, West Oakland BART riders will see portions of the parking lot closed for soil testing ahead of the Mandela Station development. If you typically park at West Oakland, consider arriving early today to secure a spot before the testing equipment is mobilized tomorrow morning.
