Public Works: High Street Community Cleanup

The City of Oakland’s Public Works department reminds residents that the High Street Coalition is hosting its scheduled community cleanup today, Saturday, February 14, 2026. As part of the city’s ongoing neighborhood beautification initiative, this event occurs every second and fourth Saturday of the month. Volunteers and local residents are encouraged to participate in removing litter and maintaining local green spaces. Tools and supplies are provided at the staging area. For those looking ahead, the next neighborhood cleanup is scheduled for February 21 with the Melrose 27X Neighborhood Council.

Holiday Notice: Presidents' Day Closures

In observance of Washington’s Birthday (Presidents' Day), all non-emergency City of Oakland administrative offices will be closed on Monday, February 16, 2026. This closure includes:

  • Oakland Public Library branches (all locations)
  • Senior Centers and Parks & Recreation administrative offices
  • The City Clerk’s Office and the One-Stop Permit Center

Emergency services, including the Oakland Police Department and Oakland Fire Department, will remain fully operational. Regular residential trash and recycling collection schedules will not be affected by the holiday, though residents should expect delays in processing administrative requests until offices reopen on Tuesday, February 17.

Public Safety: Missing Person Alert and Enforcement Updates

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) maintains an active missing person alert for Najibah Pasha, who was last seen on February 9, 2026. Ms. Pasha is considered at risk due to her age, and officials are requesting that any residents with information contact the OPD Missing Persons Unit immediately. Additionally, the department recently concluded a series of targeted enforcement operations along the International Boulevard corridor aimed at combating human trafficking. These operations resulted in 11 arrests this week as part of the city’s post-Super Bowl safety initiatives.

Transportation and Planning Updates

The City of Oakland has officially extended the grace period for Sunday parking meter operations. While the program was originally slated to begin earlier this year, the first day of active enforcement for Sunday parking will now be Sunday, April 12, 2026. Furthermore, the Planning & Building Department has announced updated Planning Code regulations. An expanded list of small-scale residential and commercial projects is now exempt from the formal Design Review process to help streamline local development and property improvements.
