Morning Maintenance and Freeway Delays

Commuters heading toward the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge this morning should prepare for localized delays. Caltrans has scheduled maintenance work on Eastbound I-80, specifically affecting Lane 1 near the Yerba Buena Island Tunnel. This closure is expected to remain in effect from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, February 10. While the work is on the eastbound side, the activity often causes rubbernecking delays for westbound traffic heading into the city.

Additionally, those traveling late tonight should be aware that the CA-24 Eastbound Right Bore of the Caldecott Tunnel will be closed for maintenance starting at 10:00 p.m. Motorists are advised to use the remaining bores and expect slightly longer travel times through the tunnel during the late-night hours. Ongoing overnight roadworks on I-80 between Albany and Hercules continue to see lane and ramp closures between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., which may affect those returning to Oakland from the North Bay.

BART and Parking Alerts

Significant changes begin today at the West Oakland BART station. As part of the pre-construction activities for the Mandela Station Transit-Oriented Development project, soil testing will take place from February 10 through February 17. This work requires the temporary closure of portions of the station parking lot. While no more than 60 spaces will be offline at any given time, the high demand for parking at this hub means spaces will fill up much faster than usual. Commuters are encouraged to arrive early, consider biking, or use the recently launched free Wi-Fi at the station to check real-time transit alternatives if the lot is full.

AC Transit Service Impacts

Local bus riders in North Oakland should note a specific stop closure today. Due to City of Oakland construction, the bus stop at Telegraph Avenue and 38th Street (Stop ID 55375) will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. This affect Line 6 service toward Downtown Berkeley. Passengers are advised to use alternate stops at Telegraph and 40th Street or Telegraph and 34th Street during this window. This comes alongside broader schedule adjustments that went into effect on February 1 across the AC Transit network to improve reliability and address overcrowding on high-traffic lines.

Regional Super Bowl Impacts

Finally, as the region hosts Super Bowl LX festivities, today marks the final day of significant traffic impacts on major thoroughfares near the Moscone Center in San Francisco and Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. While these events are outside Oakland city limits, the resulting congestion on the I-880 corridor and the Bay Bridge has been higher than average. Commuters should remain alert for shifting traffic patterns and increased volume throughout the day.
