Delays Expected Near Oakland Arena and Chinatown for Saturday Events
Saturday Commute Overview
Oakland commuters and visitors should prepare for localized congestion and several transit detours this Saturday, February 28, 2026. While major freeway arteries are currently moving at typical weekend speeds, high-profile events at the Oakland Arena and community gatherings in Chinatown and West Oakland are expected to impact local traffic flow and bus schedules throughout the day.
Major Event Alert: Disney On Ice at Oakland Arena
Motorists are advised to expect significant delays on I-880 and local surface streets near the Oakland Arena, including Hegenberger Road and 66th Avenue. Disney On Ice Presents "Let’s Dance!" is hosting three shows today at 11:00 AM, 3:00 PM, and 6:30 PM. Expect heavy traffic approximately one hour before and after each performance. If you are not attending the event, consider using San Leandro Street or 73rd Avenue as alternate routes to avoid the stadium area.
AC Transit Detours and Public Transport Updates
Several bus lines are operating on detour today due to various community events:
- Oakland Chinatown: Lines 19, 30, and 96 are on detour until 6:00 PM tonight. Several stops in the Chinatown district are closed to accommodate a local event.
- West Oakland: Lines 14, 22, and 36 will face morning detours until approximately 10:30 AM in the West Oakland area.
- Craneway Pavilion: Line 74 is detoured until 2:00 PM today due to an event in the Marina area.
- Capitol Corridor: Passengers are reminded that Capitol Corridor is operating on a reduced train schedule through tomorrow, March 1.
BART service is currently reporting normal operations across all lines following the resolution of earlier communication equipment issues. However, riders are encouraged to check the official BART app for any individual train cancellations.
Roadworks and Future Construction Staging
Caltrans continues to wrap up overnight maintenance on I-80 between Albany and Hercules. While most lanes should be open by mid-morning, minor lingering delays may occur. Looking ahead, residents should note that the Oakland Alameda Access Project (OAAP) begins initial staging this Monday, March 2. While traffic impacts today are minimal, you may notice new construction signage and parking restrictions being established along Oak Street and near the Posey and Webster Tubes.
Speed Camera Activation Warning
Drivers are also reminded that 18 new speed cameras are now active across Oakland's "High-Injury Network," including sections of MacArthur Boulevard, International Boulevard, and Hegenberger Road. The system is currently in a 60-day warning period; however, motorists are urged to observe posted speed limits to improve safety on these high-collision corridors before fines begin in mid-March.
