BART Track Maintenance and Service Delays

On Sunday, February 1, 2026, BART crews will conduct essential vegetation management along the Yellow Line. Transit officials have announced that service will be reduced to a single track between the Rockridge and Orinda stations throughout the day. Passengers traveling through these stations should expect significant delays and are encouraged to add extra time to their commutes. This maintenance is part of a broader effort to ensure rail safety and prevent potential fire hazards near the tracks during the dry season.

Public Health Advisory: Regional Mass Gatherings

The Alameda County Public Health Department has issued a regional health advisory in anticipation of Super Bowl LX and associated mass gatherings. While the championship game is scheduled for February 8 in Santa Clara, large-scale events and international traveler arrivals are expected to increase starting this week. Residents are advised that the transmission risk for respiratory illnesses, including influenza and RSV, is currently high. Healthcare providers have been alerted to remain vigilant for symptoms of communicable diseases and to prioritize preventative measures during this period of increased regional travel and tourism.

New Support for First Responders

Effective today, February 1, 2026, the City of Oakland has officially launched a new professional services agreement with Evergreen Counseling to support the Oakland Fire Department (OFD). This multi-year contract provides comprehensive behavioral science consultation and confidential mental health services specifically tailored for firefighters. This initiative recognizes the recurring traumatic incidents and operational stress encountered by first responders and aims to strengthen the department’s capacity for effective emergency response by prioritizing the psychological well-being of its personnel.

Workplace Safety Compliance Deadline

Cal/OSHA reminds all Oakland employers that today, February 1, is the mandatory deadline to post the 2025 annual summary of work-related injuries and illnesses. The Form 300A must be displayed in a visible and accessible area at every worksite from today through April 30, 2026. Employers are required to post this summary even if no work-related injuries or illnesses occurred during the previous year. This transparency measure ensures that employees can review the safety record of their workplace and encourages ongoing adherence to occupational health standards.

Medi-Cal Eligibility Changes

Residents are reminded of significant changes to healthcare eligibility that remain in effect. As of the start of 2026, new Medi-Cal applicants aged 19 and older who do not have satisfactory immigration status are no longer eligible for full-scope coverage. These individuals will instead be enrolled in restricted-scope Medi-Cal, which covers emergency and pregnancy-related services. Current enrollees who were active before the policy change will maintain their full-scope coverage, provided they continue to meet all other standard renewal and eligibility requirements.
