Public Safety Advisory: Prowling Incidents in East Oakland

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) has issued a community safety advisory following a series of prowling incidents reported in the Maxwell Park area and surrounding East Oakland neighborhoods. Investigators have identified at least six reports since late 2025 involving an individual entering private yards and peering into occupied residences. Most incidents have occurred between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. The suspect is described as a male in his 40s or 50s with a balding head, last seen wearing a black jacket, a white hooded sweatshirt, and blue jeans. OPD has increased patrols in the affected areas and urges residents to remain vigilant, secure their property, and share any relevant surveillance footage with the Special Victims Unit.

Infrastructure Alert: Adeline Street Bridge Seismic Retrofit

Construction activities for the Adeline Street Bridge Seismic Retrofit Project are set to commence this month. This vital infrastructure project aims to enhance the seismic resilience and safety of the bridge, which serves as a critical corridor linking the Port of Oakland to Interstate 880. The project includes structural reinforcements and paving improvements. Motorists and residents in Council District 3 should anticipate periodic lane closures and minor traffic delays as work begins. This $3.3 million project is funded through a combination of federal grants and Measure KK funds to ensure the long-term operability of West Oakland’s freight and passenger routes.

Health Advisory: Regional Measles Vigilance

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and local health officials have issued a reminder for residents to maintain up-to-date immunizations following a rise in measles cases across the state. As of early 2026, localized outbreaks have been monitored in the Bay Area and Los Angeles. Residents are advised to verify their vaccination status, particularly before international travel. Healthcare providers are instructed to maintain a high level of suspicion for symptoms including fever and rash, and to report any suspected cases immediately to the local health department to prevent community spread.

Public Service Announcement: Sunday Parking Meter Grace Period

The City of Oakland has officially extended the grace period for Sunday parking meter operations. While the transition to Sunday enforcement was previously planned for earlier this year, the first day of active enforcement will now be Sunday, April 12, 2026. This extension allows for continued community outreach and the updates of signage throughout city business districts. Residents and visitors are encouraged to use this time to familiarize themselves with the updated parking regulations and the city’s digital payment applications.
