Morning Transit and Commute Overview

Oakland commuters are facing a mix of transit delays and significant bus stop relocations this Monday, January 26, 2026. While the major highway arteries are moving with typical weekday volume, those relying on public transportation and local downtown streets should allow for extra travel time this morning.

BART and Rail Service Alerts

Early morning police activity at the Fruitvale station has resulted in residual delays across the BART system. As of the early commute hours, BART officials report approximately 10-minute delays on the Berryessa Line in both the Richmond and Daly City directions. While service is currently recovering, trains may remain crowded as the schedule stabilizes. Passengers are also reminded that ongoing Clipper card system upgrades at station vending machines require users to hold their cards against the reader for the duration of the transaction rather than tapping.

For those traveling beyond the East Bay, Capitol Corridor has implemented a reduced service schedule effective today, Monday, January 26, which is expected to last through late February. Due to equipment unavailability, five specific trains—520, 526, 531, 534, and 537—have been cancelled. Commuters should check the updated digital boards at the Jack London Square station for the next available departures.

AC Transit Construction and Stop Closures

Bus riders in Downtown Oakland will encounter significant stop closures today due to localized construction projects. The following alerts are in effect for Monday:

  • Downtown Oakland: The stop at 12th Street and Broadway is closed from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., affecting Lines 19, 22, 30, and 40.
  • Line 27: Stops on Colusa Avenue at Tacoma and Vincente Avenues are closed between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
  • Lines 51B and 802: The stop at University Avenue and 4th Street is closed until 5:00 p.m. due to utility work.
  • Line 67: Maintenance on Spruce Street at Halkin Lane has closed that stop until 4:00 p.m. today.

Highway and Bridge Conditions

Traffic flow on I-880 and I-580 is currently stable, with standard congestion reported near the High Street and 23rd Avenue merges. Caltrans has not reported any major accidents within the Oakland city limits as of 7:30 a.m., though motorists should remain alert for merging traffic near the Port of Oakland. For the evening commute, be advised that the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge (Westbound I-580) will continue its nightly maintenance schedule. The right lane and the integrated bike path will be closed starting at 7:00 p.m. tonight, with shuttle services available for cyclists.
