Morning: Bay Bridge Delays and Early Tube Reopening

Commuters heading into San Francisco or returning to the East Bay early this morning should be aware of ongoing rehabilitation work on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Caltrans has been performing overnight joint repairs on the western span, which required multiple lane closures. Eastbound lanes 1, 2, and 3 are scheduled to remain closed until 7:00 a.m. today, which may cause significant backup for those heading toward Oakland during the tail end of the morning rush. On the westbound side, all lanes were expected to reopen by 4:00 a.m. following separate maintenance work.

Additionally, the Posey Tube, which was closed overnight for Caltrans maintenance, is scheduled to reopen at 5:00 a.m. Friday morning. Drivers traveling between Alameda and Oakland should find the tube clear for the duration of the daytime commute before the next scheduled closure tonight.

Midday: Transit and Parking Adjustments

Commuters using the West Oakland BART station are advised to arrive early or seek alternative transit options. Portions of the station's parking lot are currently closed for soil testing as part of a transit-oriented development project. These intermittent closures, affecting up to 60 spaces at a time, will continue through February 17. Meanwhile, riders at the 12th St. Oakland City Center station should note that the street-level escalator at 13th Street and Broadway remains out of service for modernization work, with a projected return to service on February 20.

AC Transit has several active detours in effect today:

  • Line 45: Detoured around Acalanes Drive due to ongoing construction.
  • Line 65: Detoured on Senior Avenue toward Downtown Berkeley due to EBMUD utility maintenance.
  • School Lines 667, 675, and 684: Detoured near Scott Street and Donal Avenue through February 18.

Evening: Arena Traffic and Weekend Tube Closures

Traffic is expected to thicken significantly around the Hegenberger Road and 66th Avenue corridors this evening. The Oakland Arena is hosting the 90's Banda Tour starting at 7:00 p.m. With doors opening early, the Coliseum area will likely see heavy congestion beginning around 5:30 p.m. Attendees are strongly encouraged to take BART to the Coliseum station to avoid parking delays.

Looking toward the late-night commute, Caltrans will once again close the Posey Tube starting at 11:00 p.m. tonight, Friday, February 13. The tube will remain closed until 5:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Motorists should use the Webster Tube or the Park Street Bridge as alternates for travel into Alameda.
